Orphan Care As a result of 20 years of civil war and the tsunami in December 2004 there are many orphans in the Tamil area on Sri Lanka. Moreover there are many children who lost one of their parents. In many cases the single parent married again and left the children behind without caring for them. Ceylon Christian Care runs the following orphan homes on Sri Lanka : |

Life in the homes The children stay almost the whole year in the home. We stimulate the children to go and stay with their relatives in the holidays to maintain their social network. They need this network at the time they leave the home. In the home the children get food, clothes and education. They will also be taught the Gospel. On Sundays they go to church and we organize bible studies. Some of the children have been baptized. The ages of the children in the homes vary from 3 to 17. Children can stay until they finish their study and have a job. They are supported and motivated to follow the appropriate studies and trainings. When necessary they receive help the first years after leaving the home. It is important that life in the homes is not to much “luxury”. It should not differ too much from their “home” situation. Otherwise children do not like to go back to their relatives during holiday time. And the child will get problems when leaving the home. Life in the homes is strictly organized from the morning till the evening. Good discipline is an important basis for their future life.
