Community Development Murokkodanchenai

In this village Ceylon Christian Care started in March 2006 a community development project. There was some delay due to the political situation on the island. In September also one of the employees on the project was killed by an unidentified gunmen.

Although all these problems we are happy that we can report that good progress was made, that the first phase is finished and we have started with the second phase.

Results of the first phase:

· Medical Clinic

This was one of the first actions taken after the start of the project. Every Friday a doctor visits the village and has a medical clinic. Average 85 people visit the clinic each week !

· Building new Toilets

35 Wells are constructed for the most needy families. These were the widows, the elderly people and the families with young girls.

· Constructing new wells

30 wells have been constructed. There is now one well one 10 families. Next step is to bring the concentration down to one well on 5 families.

· Sewing Training

24 Girls did follow a sewing training of 6 months. They are now able to stitch clothes for their family and neighborhood and earn money to live.

· Public Market

The village people are very happy with this project. Now they can market their own products and earn money. Others are happy that they don’t have to walk a long distance to buy things.

· Day Care Center for young children

In the day care center 53 children are studying. They receive education in their young age which did not happen to one of the villagers before.

· Micro Credits

We have given loans to several families. The first families have settled their loan and have developed continuing business. Several families request now for a second loan to expand their business.

Next plan is to help the widows of this village. This will help them to earn their own income.

Yours sincerely,

Herman van der Weerd

Progress update of the Ceylon Christian Care Projects

Start of New Translation Project

Community Development rural area around Central Camp

There is not much news to report on this project. This project is located in the LTTE controlled area. Since the start of the violence's we are not able to visit the families. As soon the situation stabilizes we will look at this project again.

New translation projects did start

We are happy to announce that we have started the next translation project. We selected for this project the four books of Mrs. Hartingsveldt-Moree from the Netherlands. These books handle the Christian fundamentals in a way easy to understand for young children and people who are not grown up with the Bible.

The fundamentals of the Christian believe are handled in approximately 250 chapters. Every chapter handles a topic. The structure of each chapter is: a Bible reading, the explanation, a Psalter to sing and questions.

The books are written in Dutch and the first step is the translation into English. This is done by Mrs. Angela Grisnich from Lethbridge in Canada. After translation the text is going to Sri Lanka where the Mrs. Shanta, the wife of Rev Jeyanesan is taking care for the translation to the Tamil language.

We are happy that publishing house “De Banier” gave us al the rights to translate these books into English and Tamil and provided to us all material needed for this project to us.

It is our wish and prayer that the Lord will bless this work and that it will guide many people to Him and our savior Jesus Christ.
